This protected, flat region, with its 100 km of managed cycle paths, is a place that both children and adults are bound to love.

Come and discover the birdlife, the salt marshes and forests, and pay a visit to the oyster huts where you can try out the oysters. And don’t forget the lighthouses - the Phare de Baleines offers a spectacular view of the l'Ile de Ré.

A visit to the fortifications of Vauban, protected by the UNESCO world heritage convention, cannot be missed.

With its beautiful sandy beaches and foreshore (a beach to discover when the tide is out), sun-worshippers, swimmers, fishing enthusiasts and walkers will all be spoilt for choice.

Come and stay and be charmed by the colourful markets selling local produce such as wine and potatoes.

The wide variety of restaurants on the island will give you many opportunities to try out some seafood or whatever tempts you.

Bicycle hire, long walks, a swimming pool, sailing, jet-skiing, boat trips, island hopping, horse-riding, golf, museums, shows and shopping in the island’s many shops - all these activities are waiting for you.
